About Us

Mission Statement

The Winchester Area Homeschoolers Association (WAHA) was formed to serve as a steady source of encouragement and support to local homeschool families by providing members with fellowship, support, and resources, as well as social, educational & community opportunities.

WAHA is an inclusive, Christian group. Inclusive simply means that our membership is OPEN TO ALL home educating families. Our members, regardless of faith, age, race, or gender, must understand and agree to abide by all of the guidelines that govern our group. All members need to understand up front that non-Christian families are a welcome part of our group. We encourage anyone that would not be comfortable with this to seek a more exclusive homeschooling support group.

Meet the Directors

Ben and Synamon Synamon Lizik, Director - synamon@theapplepeel.org

I am married to my wonderful hubby Ben who happens to be The Apple Peel's webmaster. We have 2 kids, Cody (15) and Cordelia (6). We are eclectic unschoolers, meaning we do whatever, whenever. One day may have us doing some workbook pages, another may have us surfing the internet and playing online educational games. We have come to the conclusion that homeschooling is not just an educational adventure, but also a way of life and we wouldn't have it any other way.

Amy Amy Marcus, Director -

My husband, Robert and I have been together for 15 years. We have one child, Logan (7). We are eclectic homeschoolers. We have a very flexible schedule with a relaxed learning style. I make my own curriculum based on Logan's specific needs. We utilize the internet, and the public library, workbooks, etc. The whatever, whenever method seems to work very well for Logan and gives him the freedom to explore his own interests more so than a strict curriculum would.

Rachel Rachel Marcian, Director -

My hubby John and I have three kids Carter, Everett and Vaughn. We started homeschooling last year and have followed a largely hands-on approach to learning - games, fieldtrips, experiments, videos and lots and lots of books!

Wendy

Wendy Clarke, Director -

I have two kids Joseph and Brooklynn. Joe is enrolled at Seton Home Study School. It’s a great way to homeschool your children if you are unsure of what to do.  Trust me I was very unsure of what to do.  This program is Catholic and is approved by VA.   This is why I do a box learning kit. Joe seems to love it and so do I. When my daughter is old enough, she will be enrolled also. I’m the teacher and my husband is the principal. The group has been an asset to my learning with my son. I would highly recommend them!
